However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units This robot vacuum cleaners reviews vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The smart robot employs an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has an attribute known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas are.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate a mapping run that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
